The Medicine Wheel is an ancient stone structure built near the to of Medicine Mountain at 9,642 feet. The site is staffed seven days a week. Intern will work either at the interpretors cabin near the main parking area or at the Medicine Wheel which is 1.5 miles away. Staff at the cabin greet the visitors as they arrive providing interpretation of the site, forest information and answering general questions of the area. Staff at the site answer questions and provide site protection. All Staff help maintain the site by performing duties such as: cleaning bathrooms, painting facillities, repairing fences, clearing pathways, etc.. Staff is required to walk the 1.5 miles between the Medicine Wheel and Interpreters cabin each day.

    Location Description
    The Medicine Wheel is located near the top of Medicine Mountain at 9,642 feet elevation. With this site located on a mountain top it is exposed to the elements and has a commanding view of the Bighorn Basin and surrounding mountain ranges. The Medicine Wheel is in alpine tundra and due to the weather and altitude plants can not grow very big. Wildlife is aboundant near the site with elk deer, and moose seen in the open meadows below. Interpreter will work at both the Interpreter Cabin or the actual Medicine Wheel.
    Training Provided
    Forest orientation that includes; First aid/CPR, Defensive Driving, ethic and conduct, Thunderstorm and lighting preparedness, site information and interpretation.
    Educational/Recreational Opportunities
    Opportunity to meet and converse with Tribal Elders and other representitives of various tribes.The Forest has many diverse recreational opportunities. The site is also located about two and half hours from Yellowstone National Park.
