Intern will photograph the cultural landscape of Stones River National Battlefield from a series of about 100 photopoints that were established throughout the park in the late 1990s. The intern will access and and catalog all digital files printed copies of the photographs into the park museum collection. Digital files will also be stored on the park’s shared computer database.
The intern will also record photopoint locations GIS data layers for the park, and link the photos to those layers.
The intern will also have the opportunity to participate in other resource management operations and gain work experience in a number of areas including: invasive and native plant identification, implementing invasive plant control strategies, herbicide application, native landscaping techniques, maintenance and operation of resource management equipment, recording field observations, collecting and organizing field data, and monitoring rare and endangered plant species.
Location Description
Stones River National Battlefield is a 650 acre park that commemorates the Battle of Stones River, one of the
most important battles of the American Civil War. It is located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, a rapidly growing
urban area near the geographic center of the state, located about 30 miles south of Nashville. Murfreesboro is
home to Middle Tennessee State University, one of the largest colleges in the state.
