General State of Duties

Performs a wide variety of responsible office and clerical duties in the Historic Preservation and Museum Services division; does related work as required.
Essential Duties
This hourly position works within Recreation and Parks in the area of Historic Preservation and Museum Services (HP/MS).  HP/MS has the responsibility to identify, interpret, collect, and preserve historical and cultural resources in Henrico County.  Historic sites owned by the county include a 19th century living history farm, an 1825 tavern, a 1902 schoolhouse, a 1920s gas station, an Art Deco theatre, a depression-era farm, and a civil war headquarters.  The museum collection consists of over 40,000 artifacts, including furniture, textiles, military items, agricultural equipment, books, maps, manuscript collections, photographs, folk art, and archaeology.
Duties for this position will include but are not limited to:
Works primarily with museum collection records and serves as the museum collection database specialist;
Compilation of artifact information and creation of object files;
Data entry into the Past Perfect collection database with regular updates of records;
Scanning and photography of artifacts, photographs and documents;
Annual site inventories and ongoing storage inventories;
Cataloging of artifacts; conducting artifact condition checks; proper housing and packing of artifacts;
Processing donation paperwork.
Possess tact, courtesy, and ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school and three (3) years of related clerical experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Additional Information
Museum database management experience preferred.

First Aid, CPR, AED certifications may be required.  Training provided if necessary.
Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds to move supplies and equipment as needed.
