Duty Security Manager - TNA UK


Fixed term appointment for 12 months (with possibility of permanency)

A disturbance allowance of £2,846.39 per annum is paid.
Uniform will be provided and a shoe allowance is also paid

Job Purpose:

The National Archives is a government department and an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice. We incorporate the Office of Public Sector Information and Her Majesty's Stationery Office. We also perform the Historical Manuscripts Commission's functions in relation to private records.
As the government's national archive for England, Wales and the United Kingdom, we hold over 1,000 years of the nation's records for everyone to discover and use.
The post holder will be one of four Duty Security Managers who are responsible for the protection of our people, assets and estate. The Security Department is responsible for providing a secure and safe environment for TNA staff, contractors and visitors.
The Security Department provides security on a 24/7 basis and currently has 37 staff working a variety of shift patterns to meet our operational requirements.

Reports to: Security Operations Manager

Role and Responsibilities:

You will report to the Security Operations Manager and will have responsibility for all aspects of Building Physical Security utilising existing technology and in-house guard force.

Out of normal business hours you will be the designated on site Incident Manager.

You will directly manage up to 4 Security Officers with responsibility for their day to day welfare, development and performance management.

Main Duties:

* Ensuring all key positions are fully staffed in accordance with day to day security operational requirements.
* Ensuring all duty Security Officers are fully conversant with their assigned duties and compliant with relevant security operations manual, security instructions and The National Archives' policies and procedures appropriate to their role.
* Succinct daily communications using shift hand over process.
* Maintenance of duty rosters, obtaining coverage for any shortfalls in staff due to unexpected absence, leave, training and other operational requirements; including events and security escort duties.
* Ensuring that all relevant security documentation is accurate and fully maintained; including Security Logs, Work Permits and other key logs and journals.
* Initiating correct responses to any incidents and emergencies and taking control of events as necessary.
* Ensuring full concise reports are submitted to the Head of Security on all relevant situations in a timely manner.
* Ensure that the Security Operations Manager is briefed on any matters that should be brought to his attention.
* Identifying any training and development needs for security officers under his/her control.
* The management of The National Archives' performance process including 1-2-1 reviews.
* Liaison with colleagues and members of the public with regard to security related or Reading Room Invigilation issues.
* The management of access into The National Archives including the issue and control of proximity access cards, volunteers, temporary staff and contractor's passes.
* The issue and control of keys held within security control rooms.
* The safe custody of found property and cash placed under his/her control in accordance with current Corporate Policy.
