The Stewart House Museum Fellowship

Starting Pay: $20,000 stipend, distributed on a bi-weekly basis. This role is in residence at The Stewart House Museum in Monmouth, IL for (12) months and has a dedicated workspace within the museum. 

Position Description:  The Stewart House Museum Fellowship, offered by the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation, is intended for emerging scholars seeking hands-on experience in a broad range of museum functions and operations. Ideal candidates for this fellowship are interested in the pursuit of a professional museum career or extensive volunteer service in a museum field.

Primary Duties:

Direct the day-to-day operations of The Stewart House under the supervision of the Archivist/Museums Director; Maintain the facility in accordance with standards of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation, the Museums Committee, and local regulations, including security and safety standards. Enforce rules and policies as established by the Museums Committee; Arrange for and host periodic overnight guests.

Manages the Stewart House Committee, guiding their activities based on long-term strategic goals of the Kappa Foundation Board of Trustees; Partner with The Stewart House Committee to plan and execute a calendar of events throughout the year. 

Ensure professional management and protection of Fraternity archives and Museum collections stored at The Stewart House.

Develop, catalog and maintain collections stored at The Stewart House. Collections include documents, photographs, audio/visual material, Fraternity memorabilia and museum objects. Aid in the maintenance and disposition of The Stewart House’s current and past records. 

Develop educational programs specific to Kappa Kappa Gamma’s history, women’s history, the city of Monmouth, IL, and Monmouth College; Provide tours of the museum during posted open hours or for previously scheduled visitors.

Preferred:

·         Bachelor's degree required. Masters degree in Museum Studies, History, Archival Science or Library Science preferred.

·        Minimum of three years of experience in working with people in formal and informal settings; working with historic collections of varying mediums (paper, object, and photograph).

                    ·        Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and implement social events.  Excellent                                          organizational and communication skills.  Knowledge of office software including Microsoft                       Word and Excel, and ability to communicate via e-mail.  Excellent writing skills. Willingness                       and ability to work effectively with people.
