The Atlanta History Center is looking for a highly motivated and results-oriented professional to fill a full-time position, within the organization of Manager of Youth Programs.

This individual directs all aspects of the Atlanta History’s summer camp program and is responsible for providing a safe and fun learning environment for over 300 campers annually. Additionally, the Manager of Youth programs develops homeschool programming and other youth centered programming for the center.

The Manager is committed to achieving the shared goals of the Atlanta History Center in coordination with the entire programs division, the interpretive team, and multiple departments and community partners.

The successful candidate will be a strategic and innovative thinker, as well as a self-starter who demonstrates strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills and energy, creative vision, and a sense of humor and charisma; has strong organizational and analytical ability, in addition to a positive attitude and human relations orientation; is goal-oriented and able to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet myriad deadlines; and possesses a strong sense of personal and professional integrity with the ability to exercise authority and accept responsibility.

The successful candidate must to work independently, while consulting with the team on a consistent basis and must demonstrate capacity to make sound recommendations and/or decisions in a fluid environment. The successful candidate must perform all essential job functions accurately and efficiently; be willing and able to develop and maintain professional and positive working relationships with supervisors, staff, managers, and constituents of the Atlanta History Center team; be able to exercise tact and diplomacy; work with tight deadlines; and produce first-rate engaging programs for youth.


Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with AHC staff and key departments to understand the institutional objectives and strategies related to AHC mission and other activities
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, donors, volunteers, senior managers, and trustees, with an emphasis on tact, diplomacy, flexibility, collaboration, professionalism, and discretion
  •  Work in a cordial and professional manner with the public, AHC staff, volunteers, and interpretive staff
  • Direct all aspects of Atlanta History Center’s summer camp programs; hiring and training camp personnel, creating sample lesson plans, managing the budget, creating and maintaining all necessary paperwork for campers,  and ensuring all necessary supplies have been purchased
  • Coordinate and manage all youth programming sales utilizing Galaxy ticketing software
  • Conducts and administers evaluations of camp staff
  • Develop and maintain budgets for additional youth programs
  • Assist in the development of funding proposals and in-kind donations
  • Work collaboratively with marketing team to create all necessary collateral for summer camp and youth programs
  • Network with other camp directors and attend camp expos to create best practices and raise awareness of camp program
  • Develop and maintain connections with diverse stakeholders to increase the scope and depth of inclusion within youth programming
  • Develop and maintain policies and practices that ensure inclusive and equitable participation in decision-making and feedback within youth programs
  • Be a collaborative member of the public programs team
  • Understands and is prepared to respond to emergency situations
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree required; background in Education and/or Museum Studies preferred
  • Two to three years of experience teaching and/ or working in museum education
  • Demonstrated background of effective staff and/or volunteer supervision
  • Excellent customer service and public speaking skills required.
