Tumblr Community Manager Internship / Volunteer

Girl Museum is seeking a social media intern to assist in growth and maintenance of our Tumblr blog.


Duties and Responsibilities:


You will work with our Program Developer to develop content, review and edit content from other staff members, post content to Tumblr, and initiate growth and marketing strategies for our Tumblr blog. Duties include, but are not limited to:


  • Research and draft posts, based around monthly themes or exhibition schedules.

  • Review and edit posts submitted by other Tumblr writers.

  • Input and schedule content for Tumblr.

  • Act as a community manager for Tumblr, with full permission to respond to comments, like other content, follow other channels, and interact with our followers.

  • Brainstorm and implement strategies for growth. Girl Museum measures growth based on our number of followers, and is interested in exploring additional metrics for Tumblr.

  • Assist with marketing our fundraising campaigns, exhibitions, projects, or other content on Tumblr and make suggestions for better integrating Tumblr followers into our overall community (website visitors, newsletter subscribers, etc.).

  • Connect our profile(s) with like-minded individuals and organizations.

  • May also be invited to contribute blogs to our site, assist with other social media channels or marketing projects, or work on other exhibitions/projects as desired.


May be offered full management of our Tumblr blog as a Senior Staff team member, based upon performance and interest, after at least six months.


Interns will be able to customize the internship to meet their academic and/or professional goals and interests, in consultation with our Program Developer.


Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated experience in Social Media, or currently studying and have interest in Marketing or Museum-related fields. All majors welcome to apply.

  • Have reliable access to a computer and the Internet.  

  • Ability to use, or learn to use, Google Drive and virtual collaboration tools such as Trello and Slack.

  • Creative, thoughtful, very self-motivated, trustworthy, reliable, and enthusiastic.

  • Able to work well independently and on a team.

  • Must be able to define and work to deadlines.

  • Ability to dedicate at least 5 hours per week, with weekly check-ins via email.

Duration: Flexible; 3 months minimum. If earning academic credit, you must work the minimum hours as stated by your university or college.


Hours: Our museum is online, so your work can be done from your home/office.  Minimum 5 hour per week commitment with completely flexible scheduling.


Internship is volunteer only and not compensated.  Intern may be eligible for academic credit, with approval from your academic supervisor.
