Graphic Design Volunteer / Interns

Start Date: Flexible.  Applications accepted on a rolling basis.

Girl Museum is seeking a graphic design intern to assist in the development of promotional materials, exhibition-related images, and other digital media to help raise awareness of our museum and programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design clear, engaging digital graphic communications for the web. This will include:

    • Buttons and banners for linking to our exhibitions;

    • Promotional images for our various programs, including exhibits, participatory projects, and educational resources;

    • Images for use in our online store or blog;

    • Images for use on social media, such as images of famous girl-related quotes.

  • Intern may also be granted the opportunity to contribute to our upcoming exhibits or programs, if desired.


  • Proficiency in graphic design, preferably through Adobe Photoshop, or other common design and layout applications (such as Acorn).

  • Have reliable access to a computer, graphic design software, and the Internet. (Girl Museum does not provide software.)

  • Ability to use, or learn to use, Google Drive.

  • Creative, thoughtful, very self-motivated, trustworthy, reliable, and enthusiastic.

  • Able to work well independently and on a team.

  • Must be able to define and work to deadlines.

  • Interested in art history, museums, girls’ issues, and graphic design.


  • Build your portfolio of work.

  • Flexible scheduling.

  • Be part of the world’s first and only museum dedicated to girls.

  • Help grow our museum to reach new audiences and develop better programs for girls.

Duration: Flexible.

Hours: Our museum is online, so your work can be done from your home/office.

Internship is volunteer only and not compensated. Intern may be eligible for academic credit, with approval from your academic supervisor.

Girl Museum is the first and only museum in the world dedicated to celebrating girls and girlhood. Established in March 2009, we believe girls are the key to a brighter, better future and that girls deserve to have a museum of their own.

We are an entirely virtual museum dedicated to the research, preservation, and presentation of girl culture and a registered 501(c)3 non-profit in the United States.
