Curator of Education

The Muskegon Museum of Art (MMA) seeks a full-time professional Curator of Education with proven experience in museum art education. The position requires planning and coordinating of all educational programs, in-house activities, school outreach and docent recruitment and training, and special programs for adults, students, teachers, and families.  This position is also responsible for the development and implementation of interpretive materials for our audiences related to the permanent and changing exhibitions of the Museum, as well as the development of special programs and activities, which can appeal to new audiences for the Museum.


The position reports to the MMA Assistant Director, serves on the exhibition development team of the Muskegon Museum of Art, and is the lead staff member responsible for museum education. 


Education and/or qualifications preferred:

·         A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, and/or a related educational field is required. Graduate degree in related field highly desirable.

·         Three to five years experience in museum education, education or arts administration.

·         Good writing skills, communication, teaching, organizational and research skills.

·         Must be comfortable representing the Museum in various public speaking engagements.

·         Knowledge of art history, studio techniques and curatorial processes.
