The Atlanta History Center is looking for a highly motivated and results-oriented professional to fill a one-year position of Exhibition Curator to work on a major exhibition on the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Experienced visiting and/or consulting curators will be considered.


The successful candidate will be a strategic and innovative thinker, as well as a self-starter who demonstrates strong verbal and written communications skills, energy, creative vision, and possesses a positive attitude and human relations orientation; is goal-oriented and able to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet myriad deadlines; possesses a strong sense of personal and professional integrity with the ability to exercise authority and accept responsibility.


This 2,600-square-foot exhibition is scheduled to open mid-2019 and will incorporate new perspectives, engage new and diverse audiences, and raise the profile of the institution. This exhibition will employ the latest trends in interpretation, learning styles, technology, and design, including experiential learning and museum theatre.



·         Develop high quality scholarship and content that is timely, interdisciplinary, and most representative of issues and trends relevant to the Games in Atlanta and the Olympic movement in general

·         Collaborates with AHC staff to identify and acquire artifacts and assets to support the interpretive content, as well as staff for education/public programs, marketing communications, and other personnel for creation of interpretive materials, publicity materials, and public programs

·         Oversees the research, planning, presentation, and organization of the exhibition content in cooperation with staff, design team, advisory committee, community forums, and other means

·         Works under the supervision of the director of exhibitions in developing a cohesive interpretive approach and thematic structure

·         Maintains effective communications with colleagues and other stakeholders to advance the exhibition from concept through final design and installation

·         Supervises volunteers, interns, and students associated with the project

·         Understands and adheres to museum ethics



·         Ability to analyze, synthesize, and interpret complex ideas for multiple platforms serving diverse audiences and
museum visitors

·         Graduate degree or equivalent experience in Museum Studies, History, American Studies, Public History, Urban Studies, or related discipline; specific relevant content area, or broad expertise as a curator

·         Minimum of three years of full-time experience in museum, curatorial, or related work or an equivalent combination of training and experience

·         Communicate effectively orally and in writing

·         Be able to begin work on or before July  1, 2018
